Greenback Recycling Technologies (‘Greenback’), an advanced recycling technology company focused on creating certified circular solutions for plastic waste, has announced the appointment of Bob Smith as Chief Operating Officer at the growing organisation.
Greenback CEO and Founder, Philippe von Stauffenberg, said of the appointment: “We are delighted that Bob has agreed to join us at this critical time in the business. He brings a global perspective and a wealth of experience in operations, projects and fast-growing organisations which will be vital to support the international growth we see over the coming years.”
Bob has served at senior level in a number of sustainability-focused companies, most recently with London Array Ltd., and began his career working in oil and gas with BP. A Chartered Engineer, he holds a Masters in Management from Stanford University and has lived and worked in Asia, W. Africa, Europe and North America.
Smith commented: “Greenback has built a fantastic business over the last few years and I am delighted to be joining the team just as we begin our commercial expansion. There is an urgent need to remove waste plastic from the environment and Greenback is able to collect and process mixed plastic packaging, creating feedstock for new, high quality plastic which is fully traceable and certified recycled.”
Greenback and its partners have been operating a full-scale recycling plant at a technology centre in the UK for 5 years. The company is currently constructing a commercial facility in Mexico and has identified hundreds of locations where its small-scale decentralised plants can be deployed worldwide.
